Cairns might be the dive capital of the world but divers usually come here to see sharks, turtles and coral rather than whales. However, at this time of the year (June-Sept) visitors to FNQ could well be in for a ‘whale’ of a time. About 5000 whales head our way to breed and rear their babies in the warmer waters of the Great Barrier Reef before heading back south to the Antarctic. Who doesn’t love to go whale-watching? Great for adults and super-great for the kids.
