Snorkelling at Port Douglas
Due to the crystal clear waters and its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef, various forms of sea trips are exceptionally popular in this part of Far North Queensland.
One of the most popular trips from our Port Douglas holiday accommodation is that involving snorkelling on the Agincourt Reef. Is that likely to be for you?
If you’ve never done it before, snorkelling is easy and good fun.
It takes a little getting used to the idea that you can swim face down in the water for extended periods whilst still breathing and practice is critically important. Even so, after a very short period of time, most people pick up the basics of snorkelling very quickly.
Getting used to swimming underwater and coming back to the surface, then clearing your snorkel, also takes a little bit more practice but most people pick it up after a few minutes.
All you really need to do surface snorkelling is to be a relatively modest surface level swimmer. To get some of the best out of snorkelling though, you will need to be able to swim underwater - at least to some extent.
It’s certainly really worth the effort.
That’s because the Agincourt Reef is simply stunning in terms of the colours and marine life you will get the chance to see. There is just no comparison between seeing it in reality and watching it on a video. These are hugely popular trips and it’s always sensible to make sure you book in advance where possible.
The trips usually involve some basic tuition and you are, of course, always in the presence of highly experienced swimmers and reef experts. They’ll keep an eye on you to make sure that you see all of the wonders and also that you stay perfectly safe and within your own snorkelling capabilities.
If you try it, we don’t think you’ll regret it!
