Bringing the Basic Essentials

Some of our clients who haven’t visited Far North Queensland before ask questions about what they need to bring and what they can pick up locally.

Well, the answer’s pretty easy!

Cairns itself is a big town with some great shops and shopping.  In the Cairns Central shopping precinct you’ll find a full range of brands, products, and stores. In the DFS Galleria you’ll also find plenty of up-market designer brands and labels from all over Australia and the wider world.

Then there are the famous Cairns night markets, where the emphasis is more on stalls, local produce and arts-n-crafts.

In fact, it’s hard to think of anything you must absolutely bring with you from home because you wouldn’t be able to buy it locally. So, if you love travelling light and want to pick up some holiday basics here, then no problem!

Now it is true that if you’re staying in our Port Douglas holiday accommodation, you’re around 60k or so from Cairns. That’s hardly an epic expedition but it has to be said that it’s not quite on your doorstep either. If you’ve selected Port Douglas for its idyllic “away from it all charm” and tranquillity, then you probably won’t want to spend a lot of time on the road picking up all those bits and pieces you either forgot or decided not to bring with you!   

There are some boutique style shops and a market in Port Douglas but for more serious shopping you’d need to toddle along to Cairns. If the thought of that doesn’t appeal, then you may need to bring a few more of your must-have possessions with you.
