Title : Relaxing in Cairns and the Far North

Far North Queensland is the epitome of relaxation, whatever your vice.

There are so many places to visit and things to see that you will never be without something to do, whether it is sight-seeing or just hanging out poolside at your resort.

Here the FNQ Apartments team share their top tips for unwinding in the tropics.

Brenda Campbell, Managing Director, Lived in Cairns for 6 years

What’s a typical weekend?

I love to be seen at Rusty’s Markets on Saturday mornings and while there we usually have a samosa and chase it up with a coffee from Billy’s.

For brekky out, we love Lillypad Cafe, the café at Botanic Gardens and Boardwalk Café at the marina.

We stroll along Cairns Esplanade and watch the mudskippers when the tide is out.

What does a special weekend entail?

A drive up to Atherton, a swim at one of the falls or a visit to Thala Beach Lodge at Port Douglas for an elegant afternoon tea is often on the cards.

But we also really enjoy a night away at Palm Cove at Amphora, or Island Views or Beach Club for a longer stay.

Where is one place you go to unwind?

Thala Beach Lodge and a cup of tea does it for me every time.

What’s a typical weekend for you?

We go fishing on the reef or camping when the weather is good. Otherwise we go to Port Douglas to the markets and have lunch and a few beverages at the Combined Club at Port Douglas or Court House Hotel in Cairns.

Where is one place you go to unwind?

The beach, or there are a number of freshwater swimming holes near where I live.

What’s a typical weekend for you?

I like to catch up with friends for a coffee at Palm Cove, take my dogs for a walk along the beach at Yorkeys Knob and on a really hot day I go to Crystal Cascades for a swim in the freshwater swimming holes…Oh, and if I’m feeling fit I do the Red Arrow Walk.

What does a special weekend entail?

Spending the weekend at Sea Temple in Port Douglas, having a lovely meal and going to the Sunday markets.

Where is one place you go to unwind?

I can relax anywhere in Far North Queensland - it’s designed for relaxation.
